One of my earliest memories of mom goes back to our many years in the Bluenose Majorettes. She had us all involved. It kept the whole family busy, attending a lot of community parades and going to all the fairgrounds. We didn't have a lot but she did what she could with what she had. When we were young, dad worked full time and she was a full time stay at home mom. She always worked from home at something. My sisters and I all have fond memories of waiting in the car while she made her home deliveries of Avon. Once we were old enough to to be home after school on our own, she went back to work full time to help support the family. She always worked hard to do things right. By luck of the draw, I found myself working with mom quite a lot during my younger years. When I was 14 years old I had my first summer job working with mom at the Bluenose Lodge. That was an exceptional growing up experience. It was a life lesson everyday to see her work the giant mixing machine and turn out her daily recipe of two, and sometimes three hundred rolls for the dining room, 5 days a week. Summer was the busy season and some days she did a double batch for busy weekends. She was a fantastic baker, a tireless and dedicated worker and it was awesome to watch her work her magic. The fresh rolls were always ready just before the lunch crowd arrived and we would have our lunch of soup from the kitchen and the imperfect"ends" of the rolls, fresh from the oven. A wonderful growing up experience that I shall always remember fondly, and may have contributed to my sweet tooth... She passed on her love of needlework, she taught many to knit and crochet including me. We took lots of craft classes together. She loved to create things with her hands. It became a bit of an addiction for all of us for a while ........but the house could only hold so many ceramic nicknacks.... As an adult I had the opportunity to work with her once again at High Liner Seafoods. Once again she taught me the ropes. She was a wonderfully dedicated mom and grandmother. All the grandchildren fondly remember their summers at "the camp" at South Mountain Park, and all the shenanigans that can happen when kids are around. Mom and dad loved it and so did they. As she neared the end of her life, without knowing it, she reminded us all of the importance of family and working hard to do things right. There are so many wonderful memories but above all I will always remember her wonderful sense of humour and her infectious laugh. She was dearly loved by all and will be in our hearts and thoughts always. Love you. May you rest in peace mom.
