Obituary for Martha Jane Saunders (Saunders)

Martha Jane Saunders (Saunders)
It is with great sadness that the family of Martha Jane Saunders,77, of East LaHave, announces her passing on Friday, May 4, 2018 at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.

Born in Montreal, she was a daughter of the late John and Evelyn (Howard) Saunders.

Martha's family moved to Rothesay NB when she was 12. She loved sailing on the Kennebecasis and riding at the local academy. She was the valedictorian during her senior year and went on to receive her BA at UNB in Physical Education. During that time, she was greatly involved in swimming for the UNB teams, skiing, boating and later, Director of Aquatics at the YMCA.

Martha moved with her new husband, John Bryson to the LaHave River area in 2000. Many people knew her through the Elderfit Aquacize program, founded by George McKeil. Through her involvement, Elderfit expanded to classes in four local pools and over 12 volunteer instructors.

One of her other passions was helping to keep the Fort Point Museum a vibrant, historically important part of our community. She will be missed forever by her family, friends, acquaintances and everyone she touched, however lightly.

Martha is survived by her husband John Bryson; sons, Stephen (Cindy) Brooks, Moncton, Michael Brooks, Vancouver, Steve Bryson, Halifax; sisters, Barbara (Grant) Holmes, Kathy (Rick) Wise; brother, Jim (Elizabeth) Saunders, Vancouver, as well as two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews

Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy #3, Lunenburg. In keeping with Martha’s wishes cremation has taken place and a service to celebrate her life will be held on Friday May 11th 2PM at Fort Point Museum, LaHave.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations made to the Lunenburg Elderfit Program, Fort Point Museum, or a charity of your choice, would be appreciated by the family.
