Obituary for David Davies
DAVIES, David Lynn – It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of a wonderful husband, father, and Grampie on June 14, 2012, at his home “Brynhyfryd” in Martin’s Brook, Lunenburg, NS, aged 76. Predeceased by his parents Thomas John and Bessie May Davies and sister Yvonne Goodwin (Swansea, Wales). Survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Maxine Rose (nee Langille), adored daughters Christine (St. John’s, NL) and Davina (Hatchet Lake, NS), cherished grandsons Dai and Evan (Hatchet Lake, NS), sisters June Alford and Ann Davies (Swansea, Wales), and relatives in Canada and Wales. David (Lynn) was born on July 30, 1935, in Cwmrhydyceirw, Swansea, Wales. “Taff” joined the Royal Navy in his teens, serving for almost a decade. David married his life partner Maxine in Halifax, NS, in 1959, returning to Wales the following year where both their children were born. The Davies family moved to Canada in 1965, living in Lunenburg for several years before heading north to Labrador City, NL. David was employed as a mechanic with the Iron Ore Company of Canada for 24 years, retiring as a General Foreman in 1992. By then, he and Maxine had already begun building their dream home on the top of the hill. In his retirement, David gardened, raising greenhouse tomatoes along with his favoured broad beans and scarlet runners. He was always repairing or building something, from cars to tractors and sheds to garages. He spent precious time with his wife, daughters, and grandsons, including a last family holiday in Wales in 2009 where he took great pleasure in showing the boys where he’d grown up. He was a member of the Submariners Association (Welsh Branch) and former member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Special thanks to family physician Dr. Blaine Beaton for his continued care and Dr. David Abriel, along with a team of compassionate health professionals, for his palliative care in the last weeks of David’s life. He fought the good fight to the very end. Funeral arrangements under the direction of Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy #3, Lunenburg where a Funeral Service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. Interment in Martin's Brook Cemetery.
